Junior Zachary Rath recorded two wins in the Division II Singles bracket to lead the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team Saturday at the Southern Intercollegiates being held in Athens, Ga.
Rath began the day by posting a straight set (6-4, 6-4) win over Lisandro Picardo of East Tennessee State University in the Round of 32 and later in the afternoon recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Florida State’s Chris Westerhof. Rath will now face Duke’s Christopher Brown in the quarterfinals Sunday morning.
Also in the Division II Singles Bracket, Scott Blackmon fell in three sets to Stefan Dumitrescu from South Carolina Upstate, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the Round of 32.
In the Division I Singles Bracket, Marko Rajevac and David North each lost in their Round of 32 matches. Rajevac dropped a 6-0, 7-6 (8) decision to Colin Purcell from the University of Georgia while David North was defeated by South Carolina’s Yevgeny Supeko, 7-6, 6-1. In the consolation brackets, George Gvelesiani lost to Frank Suro from Georgia State, 6-3, 6-4.
Day Three of the Southern Intercollegiates will continue on Sunday with doubles action resuming in addition to singles matches.
