Young Tech Track Team Has Solid Showing At Wildcat Speed Meet

The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track teams turned in a solid performance at the Wildcat Speed Meet at the University of Kentucky’s Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky., today.

Sophomore Chris Crawley led the Tech men with two top-three placings. He won the triple jump with a mark of 48′ 4.5″ and finished third in the long jump with a leap of 23′ 2″.

Freshman Montrell Person finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.28 seconds, behind a pair of runners from Middle Tennesee State.

Senior Clayton Porter finished fifth in the 60-meter dash in 6.9 seconds. Junior Bryan Swarn’s time of 48.34 in the 400-meter dash earned him a fourth-place finish. The men’s 4×400 meter relay team also finished fourth in 3:20.44.

The Yellow Jacket women also had several top-five finishes.

Freshman Jodie Nettles and senior Becky Megesi turned in Tech’s top performances of the day, each finishing in second place. Nettles’ mark of 11′ 4.25″ in the pole vault was the second best mark of the meet. Megesi finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:15.49.

Junior Mishanta Reyes earned a pair of top-four finishes. Reyes finished third in the long jump with a leap of 19′ 0″ and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.76 seconds.

Sophomore Jennifer Ledbetter finished tied for fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5′ 6″, leading a pack of three Tech sophomores. Jamie Ostrov finished seventh with a jump of 5′ 4.25″ and Julie Conlon finished eighth with a 5′ 2.25″ jump.

Freshman Renee Metivier earned a third-place finish with a 5:09.33 time in the mile.

Sophomore Jessica DeFreitas ran a 7.62 60-meter dash, finishing just ahead of junior Alisha McClinton (seventh, 7.72).

The Tech women equaled the men’s finish with a fourth-place showing in the 4×400 meter relay (3:56.43).
