THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field team wrapped up competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational as it rained off and on Saturday at Griffin Track. Jonathan Gardner, Jhanelle McLeod and Zack Fanelty each finished second in their events to highlight the day for the Jackets.
Gardner leaped to a distance of 15.07m (49-05.50) in the triple jump behind Prairie View’s Preston Woodard’s 15.49m (50-10) jump. On the women’s side, McLeod logged a distance of 12.85m (42-02) and placed after Andrea Geubelle of Kansas (13.85m; 45-05.25).
A day after winning the long jump, Georgia Tech’s Julienne McKee took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.70m (41-08). McKee was also successful on the track with an eighth-place performance to lead Tech in the 200 meters (24.55).
Fanelty placed second in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:48.75 in the event. Teammates Cole Jackob (fifth, 1:49.36), Brandon Lasater (sixth, 1:50.32) and Jeremy Greenwald (10th, 1:50.69) also placed in the top 10.
Rachel Hammond led the Jackets in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:14.67 and an 11th-place finish. Ama Larbi placed in the top 10 in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.06 for ninth.
Up next, the Jackets head to the NCAA East Preliminaries May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C.
