ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets improved to 2-1 on the season Wednesday night as they defeated the Kennesaw State Owls by a score of 79-60 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The Jackets were led by Chelsea Regins who tied her career-high with 15 points, and by Alex Montgomery with 11 rebounds.
Tech responded in a big way after a close loss in its first road game of the season on Sunday at Old Dominion. The Jackets jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never trailed, and built the lead as large as 28 late in the second half.
The Jackets improve to 6-0 all-time against in-state rival Kennesaw State. Fast break points heavily favored the home team, with Tech scoring 17 points to the Owls’ 0. Tech passed the ball well also, accumulating 21 assists.
True freshman Ty Marshall, the ACC Co-Rookie of the Week for last week, scored 12 points. She has reached double digits in every game so far this season and leads the team in scoring.
Junior center LaQuananisha Adams set a career-high in rebounds with eight and tied a career-best with 12 points. Freshman Frida Fogdemark scored the first points of her career, knocking in a 3-pointer and following that up with two free throws.
Kennesaw State was led by junior guard Angie Smith, who scored 22 points, and added 7 rebounds and 4 assists in 32 minutes of play. Brandi Jones and Elaina Gray also reached double figures for the Owls.
The Jackets next face Prairie View A&M Friday evening at 5 p.m. at Alexander Memorial.
