ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team (6-5), who has been off for the last two weeks, will return to action Saturday when it hosts North Texas (6-4). The match at the Bill Moore Tennis Center is slated to begin at noon.
“We are anxious to get back out there and compete,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “We have had a couple of great weeks of practice to jump back in to competition. We are just looking forward to play in front of our home crowd.”
The Yellow Jackets, who have dropped three of the last four matches, have been led by sophomore Irina Falconi. The nation’s top-ranked player is 10-1 in singles during the dual-match season and has been named the ACC Player of the Week three times.
The Jackets and the Mean Green will meet for the first time in the history of the two programs.
“North Texas is an extremely well coached team,” Shelton added. “Their coach does a great job developing players.”
The Yellow Jackets have a busy week ahead with a road trip to Florida State Wednesday for a 4 p.m., match. Tech will then host a pair of Southeastern Conference foes next weekend with Georgia coming to the Bill Moore Tennis Center Saturday and Vanderbilt making a trip to Atlanta Sunday. Both weekend matches will begin at 1 p.m.
