Yellow Jackets Open 2012 Fall Tennis At Georgia State Invitational

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will officially open the 2012-13 season, the first under head coach Rodney Harmon, this weekend at the Georgia State Invitational at Piedmont Park in Atlanta.

NC State and USF will also play in the individual, flighted tournament along with Georgia State and Georgia Tech. Doubles play begins at 9 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday followed by singles play (the full schedule of play is below).

Senior Elizabeth Kilborn begins the season as the lone Yellow Jacket ranked in singles play. The Marietta, Ga., native is No. 94 in the fall ITA/Campbell’s College Tennis Rankings.

Along with Kilborn, Harmon and assistant coach Alison Silverio bring back juniors Alex Anghelescu and Muriel Wacker and sophomore Jasmine Minor from last year’s team which reached the NCAA Round of 16 for the seventh time in school history.

A trio of freshmen will be taking the courts in the Gold and White for the first time this weekend. Megan Kurey from Alpharetta, Ga., Natasha Prokhnevska from Wilmington, Del., and Kendal Woodard from Stockbridge, Ga., joined the Yellow Jackets this year.
