ATLANTA – Throughout the fall season, Georgia Tech women’s tennis coach Bryan Shelton talked about the need to compete at a high level on a consistent basis. The mental toughness Coach Shelton was looking for, and saw a glimpse of at the end of the fall season, will be put to the test as the Yellow Jackets open the 2011 season with a trip to the Michigan Invitational Jan. 15-17.
While the UM invitational is not a dual match tournament, it does feature four ranked teams. The host Wolverines were slotted the highest in the initial Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings at No. 8. Tech, ranked No. 16 in the Jan. 4 poll, will also face No. 13 Tennessee and No. 23 Washington in Ann Arbor.
Play will be held in three rounds of singles action and three rounds of doubles matches. Points to determine an overall winner will be based on what spot in the lineup the match is from.
The Jackets finished the fall with an overall record of 55-41 in singles play and 24-15 in doubles’ matches.
