ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team (9-5, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), who are coming off three straight victories, will play its first of nine straight conference matches Wednesday against No. 13 Miami (9-3, 3-0) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets are 9-3 all-time against the Hurricanes, including nine straight dating back to 2001. Tech’s only three losses in the series came prior to head coach Bryan Shelton’s arrival on The Flats.
This match will feature two top-10 opponents at the No. 1 singles position as the Yellow Jackets top-ranked Irina Falconi will meet No. 7 Laura Vallverdu. The two met early in the fall at the Bill Moore Tennis Center with Falconi coming out on top with a 7-6, 6-4 victory.
The Jackets have found some consistency at the bottom part of their lineup as of late. Sophomore Hillary Davis has won three straight matches, including a three-set match-clinching victory over Hannah Blatt of Vanderbilt on Sunday.
Georgia Tech will return home this coming weekend for a two-match homestand against Wake Forest Saturday and NC State Sunday. Both matches at the Bill Moore Tennis Center will begin at noon.
