ATLANTA – Over the last week, three members of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team competed at the Gwinnett Sports Commission Women’s $50K USTA Pro Tennis Classic in Lawrenceville, Ga.
Junior Amanda McDowell, ranked No. 786 in the world, reached the main draw of the tournament after sweeping her way through the qualifying draw. McDowell defeated the world’s No. 802, No. 585 and No. 438 players to reach the main draw before falling in the first round to Petra Rampre of Slovenia, the world’s No. 368 player, 6-3, 7-5.
Freshman Irina Falconi earned a wild card entry into the main draw of the tournament. Falconi, ranked No. 815 in the world, defeated No. 276 Arina Rodionova of Russia, 6-3, 6-1. Falconi would fall in the second round to 231st-ranked Ahsha Rolle, 6-3, 6-0.
Freshman Viet Ha Ngo dropped her only match of the week to Katerina Kramperova of the Czech Republic, 6-2, 6-4, in the first round of the qualifying draw. Kramperova entered the tournament as the qualifying draw’s No. 5 seed.

The Jackets will continue their fall schedule on Friday, October 24 at the Wilson/ITA South Region Championships, which will be played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
