ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Women’s basketball team (23-9) earned a bid to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Monday, drawing a program-best No. 6 seed in the Kansas City Regional and a first-round match-up Sunday, March 21 against 11th-seeded Arkansas-Little Rock at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla. Tip-off is slated for 7:16 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN2.
The Yellow Jackets are in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season and just the sixth time overall. This also marks the second time this season the Jackets will travel to Oklahoma for a game. Tech traveled to Stillwater, Okla., earlier this season to face Oklahoma State in the second round of the Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
The winner of the Tech-Arkansas-Little Rock game will meet the winner of No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 14 South Dakota State on Tuesday, March 23, and the survivor of that game advances to Kansas City.
Tech, who registered at least 20 wins for a program-record fourth straight season, is coming in off a semifinal appearance in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. The Jackets finished 8-6 in the ACC, only the third time in the program’s history it has registered a record above .500 in conference play.
Georgia Tech and the Trojans will meet for the first time on the hardwood in the first round of the tournament. The Yellow Jackets are 3-0 all-time against opponents from the Sun Belt Conference.
Arkansas-Little Rock, who finished the season with a 26-6 overall record and a 17-1 mark in conference play, is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets are 0-1 against Oklahoma, with their only meeting coming in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament in Iowa City, Iowa. Tech has never faced South Dakota State.
