THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team showcased its 2013 talent at the Gold/White Scrimmage in front a great crowd at O’Keefe Gymnasium on Saturday, Aug. 24. The team signed autographs following the scrimmage.
“I would just like to thank all the fans who came out today.” Head coach Tonya Johnson said. “What a great crowd for our Gold/White Scrimmage. I’m just really impressed with the numbers that came out and I hope that they’ll come back next Friday.”
The team played three sets to 25 with the gold team winning the first and third sets, (25-20, 25-22), and the white team winning set two, 28-26.
“I think our seniors are doing a great job of leading this young team,” Johnson said. “I think from the standpoint of their leadership, encouragement and taking the freshmen in and making them feel welcome it has been awesome.
“I thought today there were some bright spots. I thought Courtney Felinski played well. I thought Chanell Clark-Bibbs played well and connected with Kaleigh Colson pretty well. I saw a lot of good things and hopefully we can build on that and get comfortable with what we’re doing for next Friday.”
The Yellow Jackets open the regular season Friday, Aug. 30 against Florida A&M at 10 a.m., followed by a 7 p.m. match against Chattanooga at 7 p.m. as part of their Georgia Tech Invitational at O’Keefe Gym.
