The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will wrap up its fall season with the Schwartz Tennis Challenge hosted by Purdue at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the Boilermakers’ campus in West Lafayette, Ind., on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5.
Competing this weekend along with Georgia Tech and Purdue will be Illinois, Iowa and Vanderbilt. Tech will face the Boilermakers in doubles at 10 a.m. ET on Friday and will take on Purdue in singles on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET.
“It has been a great fall so far and our team has improved in so many areas,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “I am so fortunate to have the best assistant in the nation in Alison Silverio, and also the best strength coach in Scott McDonald. Our team is getting better in all areas which will serve us well this weekend and into the spring. There is going to be great competition again this weekend, and we’ll look to make more improvements competitively in doubles and singles.
“I look for us to finish strong this fall. It is inspiring to see our other sports teams still battling every week. Everyone takes pride in Georgia Tech and we are no exception,” Shelton added.
Twelve ranked singles student-athletes and six ranked doubles pairs will be in competition this weekend. The Yellow Jackets lead all teams with five ranked singles, led by senior Jillian O’Neill at No. 21. O’Neill will be the highest ranked individual playing this weekend.
Tech also boasts the top doubles pair in O’Neill and fellow senior Caroline Lilley, ranked No. 6, but Illinois and Vanderbilt each sport two ranked teams to Tech’s one.
The Boilermakers have one ranked individual, senior Jennifer Rabot at No. 106, and one ranked doubles team, Rabot and sophomore Mara Schmidt, which is tabbed No. 46.
