ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team earned its 12th NCAA Tournament berth with an at-large selection to the field of 64 announced Tuesday afternoon by the NCAA. The 16th-ranked Yellow Jackets (13-10, 5-6 ACC) will face the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (13-10, 7-1 Ohio Valley) at noon on Saturday, May 14.

Tech will host first and second rounds, May 14-15, at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Ticket prices for the First- and Second-Round matches are as $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets must be purchased each day of the tournament and grant you access to all matches on that day. All tickets will be sold at the gate, which will open one hour prior to the first match each day.

The Gamecocks earned their first NCAA Tournament berth by winning the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. This will mark the first meeting between Georgia Tech and Jacksonville State.

Also coming to Atlanta will be the 17th-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils (14-6, 5-3 Pac-10) and the 40th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels (11-10, 4-7 SEC). Tech is 1-0 all-time against Arizona State, downing the 21st ranked Sun Devils 4-2 in the 2009 ITA Kickoff Weekend in Atlanta. The Rebels lead the Yellow Jackets 3-1 in the all-time series. Tech defeated No. 21 Ole Miss 4-1 in the 2009 NCAA First Round in Atlanta, but the Rebels exacted revenge with a 4-0 win over the Yellow Jackets in last year’s NCAA Second Round in Atlanta.

The Sun Devils and Rebels will face off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, with the two winners meeting at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 15, with the right to advance to the NCAA Round of 16 at Stanford on May 20.

“We’re extremely happy to be hosting the NCAA Tournament, especially alongside [men’s head coach] Kenny Thorne and the men’s team,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “We know that there are three other quality teams coming here and we’re going to have to compete at the highest level in order to advance. Jacksonville State is playing very well right now, having won 11 of their last 15 matches.

“We faced Arizona State two years ago in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, and know they are a talented team,” Shelton added. “And we’re certainly familiar with Ole Miss, having faced them the past two years in the NCAA Tournament, and they knocked us out last year.”

The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will also be hosting NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds, marking the first time both Yellow Jacket squads will host in the same season.

“This week, we’re focused on finishing out the academic year strong with finals, and then we’ll be able to completely focus on tennis and the NCAA Tournament,” Shelton said.

This is the 12th consecutive year the Yellow Jackets have made the NCAA Tournament, all under Shelton and the seventh time Tech has hosted first and second rounds. In five of the previous six times the Yellow Jackets have hosted, Tech has advanced on to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.
