Yellow Jacket Track and Field Posts Strong Showing on Final Day of Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Georgia Tech men and women’s track and field teams added to a successful weekend with a strong showing on the final day of the Kentucky Invitational at the University of Kentucky’s Nutter Field House.

Senior Mishanta Reyes posted a pair of wins, as she claimed victories in both the long jump (19’05.50″) and 60-meter hurdles (8.65). In the hurdles, she was followed by a trio of teammates, as Tech swept first through fourth places. Following Reyes was senior Tosan Osaigbovo, sophomore Melanie Waits and freshman Dana Rogers.

The Tech women also had a strong showing in the 400 meters, with sophomore Nicole Kieliszak placing second (57.69) and freshman Shanta Smith finishing third. Senior Dana Hall was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 44’11.50″, while sophomore Amandi Rhett and junior Jessica DeFreitas went fourth and fifth in the 60 meters.

As for the men, the freshman duo of Jonathan Spillman and Zeb Sion had another solid effort in the shot put. Spillman finished second with a mark of 53’07.50″, while Sion placed third (51’03.00″).

Sophomore Brendon Mahoney went 1:51.22 in the 800 meters to finish third, while fellow All-American Sharif Azim placed fourth in the 400 meters (48.37). Junior Chris Crawley was third in the long jump with a leap of 23’11.75″, and classmate Brian Fraser placed fifth.

Other top-five finishes for the men came from sophomore Michael Massey in the long jump (fifth) and the 4×400 meter relay team (fourth).

Tech returns to action next Saturday at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
