XC Men Fourth, Women 10th in Nashville

Sept. 19, 2015

Men’s Results Women’s Results

NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams continued their seasons in Nashville at the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic, as the men finished fourth in the 8k with a score of 129, and the women finished 10th in the 5k with a score of 308. The field consisted of a number of conference and regional foes, including Clemson, Louisville, Tennessee and Ole Miss.

The Jackets’ top finisher on the men’s side was senior Brandon Lasater, who placed 15th in a field of 213 runners. Lasater was followed closely by senior Jeremy Greenwald, who finished 19th. Seven Georgia Tech men finished in the top 50, including Nahom Solomon, Patrick Fleming, Matthew Munns, Alex Grady and Zane Coburn. Melissa Fairey was once again the top performer for the Tech women, finishing in 60th with a score of 49. Hayley Keadey was next in line for the Jackets, placing 65th with a score of 53.

“We had a really good day for the men and I’d say a solid day for the women,” said head coach Alan Drosky. “Experience was an important factor in a competitive field today on a challenging course. The men were a little too far back early, but stayed calm, stayed engaged and closed well over the last mile-and-a-half. The women kind of ran the same race but with the shorter distance, had less time to make up ground. There were a lot positives for both teams, and we can see some areas we need to work on.”

The Jackets will continue their season October 3 as they head to Spartanburg, S.C. for the Upstate Invitational.
