Woodard And Kurey Win ITA Summer Circuit Doubles Title

July 23, 2013

Complete ITA Summer Circuit Draw

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s doubles pair of rising sophomores Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard didn’t miss a beat after a stellar freshman year when the duo won the doubles title at the ITA Summer Circuit event hosted by the University of Alabama July 20-22.

The Yellow Jackets were successful in singles action in Tuscaloosa as well. Woodard advanced to the semifinals, incoming freshman Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer made the quarters and Kurey earned a trip to the third round.

The two Yellow Jackets teamed up to post a 24-6 overall doubles record last year, including a 20-3 mark in dual matches and a 9-1 ACC record. They went 14-3 from the No. 1 doubles spot, won nine of their final 10 matches and finished the year ranked No. 60 in the ITA rankings.

Kurey and Woodard had to battle as they won four of their five matches by two games or less. The Jacket side was seeded second, earned a first round bye and then cruised past Kate Lanier and Lauren May.

The Georgia Tech duo then fought past the team of Emily Flickinger and Ashley Kitchen from Auburn with an 8-6 win. Kurey and Woodard advanced to the championship match with a tough 9-7 win over Alabama’s Mary Anne Macfarlane and Emily Zabor.

In the championship match, Kurey and Woodard took on Kourtney Keegan, an incoming freshman at Florida, and Sydney Campbell, an incoming freshman at Vanderbilt. The Tech twosome’s experience paid off as the Jackets claimed an 8-6 win and the doubles title.
