Woodard and Kurey Ranked 26th in Preseason Poll

2013-14 ITA Preseason Rankings | 2013 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship Qualifiers

THE FLATS – Sophomores Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team are ranked at No. 26 in the 2013-14 ITA Women’s Preseason Rankings that were released today by the ITA. Woodard was also featured on the preseason singles rankings, checking in at No. 67.

Also released by the ITA were the selections for the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. The tandem of Woodard and Kurey qualified for the doubles main draw of the All-American Championships this August after winning the ITA National Collegiate Summer Circuit Doubles Title. Woodard was selected for the qualifying singles round while freshman Natasha Fourouclas will participate in the prequalifying singles round.

For the 29th year, the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., will serve as the host site for the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. The national event is set to begin on Saturday, September 28 with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches, which will be hosted by UCLA. Main draw action is slated for Thursday, October 3-6.

Woodard and Kurey posted a 24-6 overall doubles record last year, including a 20-3 mark in dual matches and a 9-1 ACC record. They went 14-3 from the No. 1 doubles spot, won nine of their final 10 matches and finished the year ranked No. 60 in the ITA rankings.

Woodard was named to the 2013 All-ACC team after finishing her freshman season with a 24-12 overall record in singles play. She led the Yellow Jackets in both overall singles (24) and doubles (28) wins. Woodard finished her first season for the Yellow Jackets ranked at No. 88 in singles.

Fourouclas, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, has been ranked as high as No. 474 in the world by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). As a junior player, she reached as high as No. 83 by the ITF Juniors. Fourouclas played on the Fed Cup team in 2011 at age 16. In 2008, she won the U14 Nike Junior Tour South African Masters and was a part of the South African representation at the 2011 All-Africa Games.

The Yellow Jackets kick off the fall portion of its 2013-14 schedule with the Georgia State Invitational from Sept. 27-29.
