Wong Wins Flight 3 Singles at Tennessee Fall Classic

The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team concluded play today at the Tennessee Fall Classic, with sophomore Jamie Wong winning the Flight 3 Singles championship.

Wong, an All-ACC selection as a freshman last season, defeated Tennessee’s Kim Gates, 6-1, 6-4, in the championship match. Tech sophomore Mason Miller, who fell to Gates in the second round on Saturday, defeated Lynsey Fick of Purdue, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (11), on Sunday.

Junior Laura Ozolins and freshman Kristen Roberson both also competed in the finals of their respective flights Sunday afternoon, but fell to players from the host Tennessee Lady Volunteers. Ozolins was upended, 6-1, 6-1, by Brooke Cordell in Flight 5, while Roberson fell to Crystal Cleveland, 6-1, 6-1, in Flight 4.

Other Yellow Jackets to compete on Sunday were Misty Morris, who defeated Erika Quebe of Purdue in a Flight 1 consolation match, and Bobbi Guthrie, who lost to Purdue’s Melissa Iqbal in the consolation final of Flight 2.
