ATLANTA– Sophomore Jaime Wong and senior Bobbi Guthrie advanced to the Flight B singles finals, assuring that a Georgia Tech player will capture the championship at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Wong defeated Iowa’s Pacale Veraverbeke, 6-2, 7-6(1) in today semifinal match to earn a bid in the final. She will face her teammate, Guthrie, who topped Clemson’s Anna Savitskaya, 7-6, 6-1, tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
Tech sophomore Mysti Morris advanced to the consolatoin final in Flight A, where she will face Ann Jeannette Svantesson of Central Florida tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Top seed Allida Gallovits of Florida State defeated Furman’s Gene Holman, 6-3, 6-1, and will face fellow Seminole Christina Denny tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the Flight A championship. Denny defeated Marieke Gunawan of Central Florida, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) in today’s semifinal.
In the Flight C singles final, Sonja Prokopek of UCF will face Iowa’s Jennifer Hodgman. The Flight D championship will feature Iowa teammates Steffi Hoch and Beth Hayden.
In doubles competition today, Iowa captured Flights A and B. Toni Neykova and Jody Scheldt defeated Yellow Jackets Morris and Wong, 8-4, in Flight A, and Cassie Haas and Erica Johnson topped UCF’s Daniela Okala and Ann Jeannette Svantesson, 8-6. The Illinois duo of Tiffany Eklov and Simone Kug won Flight C.
Competition in the Yellow Jacket Invitational concludes tomorrow at Bill Moore Tennis Center.
