Women’s Tennis Readies for ITA Regionals

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis will send eight Yellow Jackets to Lake Nona, Fla., this week to compete in the ITA Southeast Regionals, Oct. 14-18, at the USTA National Campus.

Georgia Tech will join a competitive field of 18 teams including Bethune Cookman, FAMU, FAU, FGCU, FIU, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Miami, North Florida, South Florida, Stetson and host UCF.

Qualifying action begins Thursday and matches will be played best of three with a match tiebreaker for the third set. Representing Tech in qualifying action, and seeking a spot in the singles main draw, will be Gia Cohen, Kate Sharabura and Rosie Garcia Gross. Qualifiers will play for eight spots in the singles main draw, which is set to run Friday-Sunday.

The singles main draw will feature 64 competitors, including Georgia Tech’s Kylie Bilchev, Carol Lee, Ava Hrastar, Mahak Jain and Monika Dedaj. Three Georgia Tech doubles teams – Bilchev/Hrastar, Sharabura/Lee and Cohen/Garcia Gross – have earned spots in the doubles main draw, which also begins Friday.

Main draw action gets underway with the first round of doubles followed by the first two rounds of singles. First round losers will move to a consolation bracket.

The regionals doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists from regional championships qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships, Nov. 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
