Women’s Tennis Opens ACC Play This Weekend

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis is set to open the Atlantic Coast Conference slate this weekend, visiting Miami on Friday and Florida State on Sunday.

The No. 47 Yellow Jackets (3-3) blanked Mercer on Monday afternoon to even its record to .500 on the season. Georgia Tech has now won three straight matches and looks to extend its win streak this weekend. Carol Lee leads the Jackets, owning a perfect 6-0 dual mark in singles play, and is 5-0 in doubles action with teammate Kate Sharabura.

No. 15 Miami brings a 5-1 mark into its opening weekend of conference play with its only loss coming against USC, 4-3, in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Hurricanes have won three straight and boast a 3-0 dual record at home this season. Isabella Pfenning, who competes mainly at No. 3 singles, is 6-0 early in dual play. The Hurricanes have won all six doubles points to start the season.

No. 44 Florida State owns a 5-2 record, including a 5-1 home mark, and hosts Clemson on Friday before meeting Georgia Tech on Sunday. The Seminoles have dropped a pair of matches to nationally ranked Florida to account for their two losses this season. Petra Hule holds down the top singles position for FSU and owns a 6-0 record in dual play early in the season.
