ATLANTA-The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team travels to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Minnesota Court Classic, Saturday, January 31 and February 1, 2004. The 40th-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers host No. 14 William & Mary, No. 29 Georgia Tech and No. 75 Rice. William & Mary and the Jackets square off at noon., on Saturday, followed by the Golden Gophers vs. Rice at 4 p.m. The consolation match will be held at 10 a.m., on Sunday, while the championship match starts at 2 p.m.
This year’s Minnesota Court Classic features several nationally-ranked singles and doubles players. In singles, Rice’s Lauren Archer is listed 51st, with Candace Fuchs of William & Mary at No. 57, Megan Muth of W&M at No. 76 and Georgia Tech’s Kelly Anderson at No. 99. In doubles, W&M’s Muth and Amy Wei lead the field at No. 11, followed by Minnesota’s Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy at No. 26, and W&M’s Fuchs and Kate Boomershine at No. 27.
The Minnesota Court Classic marks the season opener for Georgia Tech in dual match events. The Yellow Jackets had a successful fall season, combining for a 35-30 record in singles play and an even 12-12 record in doubles matches. Five members of Tech’s women’s team finished the fall season with winning records, including Kelly Anderson (8-4), Kacie Anson (3-2), Sekita Grant (4-2), and Lyndsay Shosho and Alison Silvero who both posted a 6-5 mark.
