Women’s Tennis Caps Tournament Action

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis concluded the Georgia Southern Fall Shootout on Sunday securing a pair of doubles and singles mini flights. Rosie Garcia Gross and Kate Sharabura both went undefeated on the weekend.

Play started with the final round of doubles action as Tech went undefeated in doubles play during the two-day tournament. Sophia Sassoli and Garcia Gross wrapped up first, winning the Blue Doubles mini flight B, cruising to a 6-1 triumph over Chattanooga’s Callie Billman and Coco Bosman. Tech swept the Blue Doubles flights as Gia Cohen and Sharabura downed Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic (Arkansas State) in a tight battle, 7-5. On the weekend, the Yellow Jackets took home four doubles victories.

In singles play, Sharabura capped a strong weekend, taking the Blue Singles mini flight B with a straight-set win over Mercer’s Mary Weston Courville. The freshman Yellow Jacket dominated the first set, 6-0, and rallied for a 6-4 second set win to keep her weekend record unblemished. Garcia Gross also took a singles victory on Sunday after her opponent retired due to injury.

Georgia Tech returns to action at the ITA Southeast Regionals in   Lake Nona, Fla., Oct. 14-18.
