Women's Tennis Blanks #25 Nebraska, 4-0

LINCOLN, Neb. – The #19-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team (1-0) blanked #25 Nebraska, 4-0, during the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend this afternoon.

Georgia Tech will face #16 Vanderbilt tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET in the championship match. The winner of tomorrow’s match will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships which will be held in Charlottesville, VA. Feb. 7-10.Live scoring for tomorrow’s matches can be found here.

“We played well against a very good Nebraska team,” head coach Rodney Harmon said. “Tomorrow, we will need to play even better against #16 Vanderbilt.”

The Yellow Jackets began their first dual meet of the season winning the doubles point. The #4-ranked duo of sophomores Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey captured a 6-2 victory on court one against Maggy Lemicke and Mary Hanna. It was the 11th-straight doubles victory for tandem.

The Cornhuskers’ doubles team of Maike Zeppernick and Izabella Zgierska defeated freshmen Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and Rasheeda McAdoo, 6-4, at the number three spot, putting the fate of the doubles point on the result of the match on court two.

In a close battle, sophomore Natasha Prokhnevska and senior Muriel Wacker edged Lisa Andersson and Brittany Brewster, 7-6, after winning the tiebreaker, 7-4.

Anton-Ohlmeyer was up, 7-6 (7-2) against Brewster on court four before the match was retired, putting the Jackets up, 2-0. Prokhnevska breezed past Hanna at the number three spot, 6-2, 6-1, and the Jackets led, 3-0.

Wacker’s 6-3, 6-2, win on court six against Zeppernick secured the Jackets’ first win of the season.
