ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s track and field team will host the annual Yellow Jacket Invitational, Friday-Saturday, March 30-31, at the George C. Griffin Track. The outdoor meet will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday with the men’s and women’s hammer throw. The meet will continue on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the shot put and javelin. Running events will commence at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
“We are looking forward to hosting our first home meet of the outdoor season,” said women’s head coach Alan Drosky. “It’s a great meet with about twelve quality teams in mostly a one-day format, with only the hammer throw on Friday evening.”
Several Yellow Jackets achieved NCAA Regional qualifying marks at the Wake Forest Open last weekend.
Senior Ashlee Kidd finished the meet with NCAA Regional qualifying times in the 100- and 200-meter dash. In the 100m, Kidd finished second with a time of 11.58 and then placed first in the 200m with a time of 23.24.
Junior Shantia Moss, the NCAA Indoor Champion in the 60-meter hurdles, placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 13.22. Senior Fatmata Fofanah placed second in the race, also with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.45.
“Coming off a solid outdoor opener, we’re working hard to make improvements each time we line up,” added Drosky. “Our conference meet is very early in the season, so every meet is important in preparation for the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championship.”
