Women's Swimming, Both Diving Teams Off To Maryland For ACC Championships

Feb. 17, 2009

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s swimming team as well as the men’s and women’s diving teams are off to College Park, Md., for the 2009 ACC Championships this weekend.

Events from the Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Maryland begin with the 200 Medley Relay and 800 Free Relay, Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and continue through Saturday, Feb. 21. ACC Select will provide free streaming video of the finals each night while live stats will be available throughout the week. Check www.ramblinwreck.com for links.

The women are looking to improve on their seventh-place finish from a year ago. Last year’s meet saw two NCAA automatic swimming qualifiers in Elizabeth Stowe (1,650-free) and Agatha Kwasnik (100-free), while three Tech divers — Stephanie England, Hannah Krimm and Michele Bertolino — moved on to the NCAA Zone Championships. The Yellow Jackets set 19 school records at the 2008 ACC Championships.

“We have done everything we can from the training perspective and the ladies have done a great job with that,” said head coach Stu Wilson. “The most important thing they can do is enjoy the moment. There will a lot of good swimmers at the meet, but they can’t worry about what the other teams are doing. They just need to focus on themselves, stay relaxed and not let the pressure get to them. Now they need to race on instinct.”

Full recaps will be available each night at www.ramblinwreck.com.
