April 27, 2001

PHILADELPHIA — The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams four top-15 finishes on the second day of competition at the prestigious Penn Relays. The event is being hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa.

The Yellow Jackets’ top finish of the day came in the women’s Shuttle Hurdle Relay Championship of the Americas, as the team of Mishanta Reyes, Alisha McClinton, Nikole Jeffery and Tosan Osaigbovo placed second with a school-record time of 55.11 seconds. The time eclipsed the Jackets’ time of 56.50 at the Florida Relays earlier this year.

In the day’s other women’s relay event, the sprint medley relay, Tech’s team of Jessica DeFreitas, Amandi Rhett, Jamie Ostrov and Nicole Campbell finished tenth with a time of 3:55.52.

On the men’s side, freshman Montrell Person finished fifth in his 110-meter hurdle heat with a time of 14.26 seconds. Other individual competitors included fellow rookie Michael Massey, who was 15th in the high jump with a leap of 6-7.50. Tech’s final individual event was the long jump, as Clayton Porter placed 13th with a jump of 22-11.25, while Chris Crawley and Brian Fraser were part of a tie for 16th with matching distances of 22-7.00.

The Jackets’ only men’s relay was the 4×400, as the team of Sharif Azim, Aaron Sink, Olivier Deigni and Montrell Person finished 10th with a time of 3:14.22.

The Penn Relays will conclude with the final day of competition on Saturday.
