Women Place Sixth at Auburn Invitational

Auburn, Ala. – Kyle Rabbitt led the Georgia Tech men’s team to a second-place finish at the Auburn Invitational by winning the eight-kilometer race with a time of 24:47.87. The Jackets finished second out of 29 teams in the meet with 141 total points, just 14 points behind the host and winner, Auburn. Senior Katie Griffin led the Tech women to a sixth-place finish in the women’s race.

Rabbit was joined in the top ten by senior Brendon Mahoney, who finished ninth with a time of 25:29.55 in his first race of the year. Rounding out the scoring for the men were freshmen Cristan Duvall (32nd) and David Herren (46th) and senior Barton Crist (63rd). There wwew a total of 259 men racing in the meet.

Griffin, running in her first race of the year, paced the Tech women with an 12th-place finish in a five-kilometer time of 18:35.92. Kirby Cross posted her third-consecutive top-25 performance by placing 25th in 18:51.20. Also scoring for the Yellow Jacket women were Neta Ezer (33rd,) Ann Armsby (61st,) and Jenny Lentz (72nd.) Mississippi State’s Tiffany McWilliams won the race with a time of 17:29.93.

The Tech women earned 195 total points for a sixth-place finish out of 30 teams participating, while Mississippi State won the event with 107 points.

The Jackets will return to action on November 1st at the Atlantic Coast Conference meet in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
