Williams, Matthews Prep for NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech will have two Yellow Jackets representing at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 8-9 as seniors Bria Matthews and Jeanine Williams will compete in the triple jump and 60m hurdles, respectively.

Matthews qualified in the triple jump during the ACC Indoor Championships, when she became the women’s triple jump champion. Matthews jumped a season-best mark, 13.21m in addition to being named an ACC Champion she was also named all-ACC.

At the time, her mark was 12th best in the NCAA and still is in the top 20, currently ranking 16th in the country and number first in the ACC.

Throughout the season she has topped her season-best mark three times and flirted with beating her career-best, 13.33m, in the triple jump.

Williams qualified in the 60m hurdles for the second consecutive season being named all-ACC. Ranking third in conference and 12th in the country, Williams set a season-best mark of 8.09 at the ACC Indoor Championships to finish second overall.

Williams was named ACC Performer of the Month in December for her performance at the BSC Icebreaker meet turning, at the time the nation-leading time of 8.25 in the 60m hurdles on Nov. 30, finishing first in finals.

Two months later on Jan. 30, she would be named ACC Performer of the Week following her stellar weekend at the Bob Pollock Invitational. Williams finished second in the 60m hurdles in both the prelims (8.10) and in finals (8.11) and ranked fifth on the national list.

The NCAA Indoor Championships will take place in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex on March 8-9. Prelims are on March 8, with the 60m hurdles being scheduled for 6:07 p.m. ET and finals scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on March 9.

Both the prelims and finals for the triple jump are being slated for 3:30 p.m. ET.  on March 9.
