THE FLATS – The White Team broke out the lumber and three pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout as the White beat the Gold, 15-0, in the opening game of Georgia Tech’s #WGSERIES on Friday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Tech’s annual three-game intra-squad series that marks the end of fall practice continues Sunday with Game 2 at 2 p.m.

Senior Grant Wruble was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBI, while freshman Tristin English and junior Coleman Poje each contributed three hits to the White Team’s 19-hit attached. English and Poje each drove in two runs and scored twice. Junior Arden Pabst had two hits, three RBI and three runs.

The White Team seized control early with a five-run, four-hit top of the first, staking junior RHP Zac Ryan to a lead. Ryan, who earned the win, fanned four over his three perfect innings of work. Freshman RHP Burton Delany allowed just a walk over his three hitless frames and junior RHP Matt Phillips completed the shutout by fanning four to earn a three-inning save.

Junior Connor Justus, who broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single to right in the ninth, also drew a one-out walk in the ninth. Rookies Brant Stallings (single) and Joey Bart (double) each had hits for the Gold Team.

Senior Matt Gonzalez had two hits in the game for the White Team and his RBI single to right opened the scoring in the first. Pabst added a two-run double to left and Wruble’s two-RBI double to the right-field gap capped the five-run first. Wruble added his second two-run double in the ninth.
