Georgia Tech’s West Nott and North Carolina’s Brad Pomeroy earned ACC Men’s Tennis Co-Performer of the Week. Nott posted a 3-1 record over the weekend helping the Yellow Jackets to a pair of victories over No. 27 Minnesota and No. 45 Oregon while Pomeroy went 4-0 in singles and doubles action against nationally ranked South Carolina and Clemson.
In Georgia Tech’s win over Oregon, Nott clinched the match for the Yellow Jackets with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Thomas Bieri. The senior from Midland, Mich. picked up his second singles win of the week as he downed Minnesota’s Avery Tyser, 6-3, 6-3. Then Nott combined with teammate Jason Pieters to defeat the Golden Gopher duo of Dusan Tabak and Alex Zharinov, 8-3 in doubles play. Nott has now tallied three straight wins at the number three singles position.
Against No. 19 South Carolina, Pomeroy rallied to beat the Gamecock’s Gerald Knorr, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 6 singles position after combining with Andy Metzler to win at the No. 2 doubles flight. Pomeroy and Metzler downed South Carolina’s Knorr and Rodrigues, 8-5 to help the Tar Heels claim the doubles point. In Saturday’s conference match-up against Clemson, Pomeroy and Metzler clinched the doubles points for UNC with an 8-5 win over Sterijovski and Robinson of Clemson at the No. 2 flight. In singles action, the sophomore from Asheville, N.C. defeated the Tigers’ Robbye Poole 6-2, 6-0, handing Poole his first dual match loss of the season.
Georgia Tech will host Clemson, Maryland and Virginia this week while North Carolina will compete at the Blue-Gray Invitational.
