COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Iris Wang capped off her week at the 2018 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships with a school record and top 20 finish in the 100 free on Saturday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
In her final event of the championships, Wang touched the wall in a time of 48.21 in the 100 free prelims to place 19th overall. The time topped her previous school record of 48.23, which she set earlier this year at the 2017 Georgia Tech Invitational.
“I am so proud of Iris for all of her accomplishments this year,” stated head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “She is an example of what hard work, dedication and perserverance can do. Iris and her results both in the water and in the classroom are examples of what we are building here at Tech. We are so excited to see our student-athletes heading in the right direction.”
In the 50 free prelims on Thursday morning, Wang broke her own school record with a time of 22.54, good enough to place her in a tie for 37th overall. Her previous school record was 22.69 which she originally set at the 2017 ACC Championships and matched this season at the 2017 Georgia Tech Invitational.
On Friday, Wang recorded an NCAA B time of 1:45.91 in the 200 free prelims to finished in 32nd-place overall in the 200 free event. Her time was the third-fastest time this season for the school-record holder.
