March 24, 2009

Georgia Tech freshman Bailey Wagner has been named ACC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Co-Performer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Wagner shares the honor with Florida State’s Teona Rodgers

Wagner, a freshman from Lake Villa, Ill., led the way for the Yellow Jackets with two titles at the Miami Hurricane Invitational last weekend. In her first outdoor meet, Wagner set a new school record in the shot put with a mark of 14.77m (48-05.50). She also won the discus with a toss of 47.67m (156-05.00). Wagner recorded regional qualification marks in both events to open her outdoor career in style.

The Jackets will host the Yellow Jacket Invitational this weekend at Griffin Track. Competition begins Friday with the women’s hammer throw at 6 p.m.
