After almost 15 practices, the 12th ranked Georgia Tech volleyball team will conclude its preseason schedule with an intersquad scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 21 as part of the Suwanee Sports Academy Volleyfest in Suwanee, Ga. The cost of the event is $5 and the Yellow Jackets will take the court at 7 p.m.
“This is a really fun event for our team and a chance for us to show what the Georgia Tech team will be like this year,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “It’s also a chance for us to expand our fan base to the greater metro Atlanta area. There’s a huge volleyball community here in Atlanta that’s passionate about the game and we enjoy the experience of getting to know them and showing them a preview of this year’s team.”
The Yellow Jackets have been busy over the past two weeks in preparations for the 2004 season that gets underway on Aug. 27 at the NACWAA Classic in Ft. Collins, Colo. Georgia Tech will open its season against defending national champion Southern California followed by a matchup against No. 5 Minnesota or No. 11 Colorado State on Aug. 28.
“Scrimmaging in front of a live audience and putting uniforms on will enable us to simulate real-match play which is an important step in getting prepared for the upcoming season,” said Shymansky. “It will also give us a chance to test out some things in our lineup and solidify some of our starting positions.”
