THE FLATS – Teegan Van Gunst and Annika Van Gunst both had double-doubles to lead the Georgia Tech volleyball team (12-6, 3-3 ACC) in a three-game sweep of Notre Dame (6-12, 1-5) Sunday afternoon at O’Keefe Gym.

How it Happened
Georgia Tech took an 8-4 lead and made it 15-4 on an 8-0 rally in set one. The Yellow Jackets never let up, winning the opening frame, 25-12, on a Teegan Van Gunst kill. Annika Van Gunst sparked the Yellow Jackets in game one with four kills on seven swings and no errors (.571).

Notre Dame gained its first lead of the match at 4-3 in game two. The Yellow Jackets maintained composure and, down 11-9, went on a 5-0 run to lead 13-11. Georgia Tech opened that lead to 21-13 and captured the victory, 25-18, on a block by Lauren Pitz and Rebecca Martin.

The Yellow Jackets were firing on all cylinders and jumped out to a 6-1 lead in game three. Georgia Tech held Notre Dame to a .025 hitting percentage, and Teegan Van Gunst scored Tech’s final four points to clinch the set, 25-17, and match, 3-0.

“I think we were able to come out with some energy and some fire that we were missing in the last couple of matches that we played,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “It was great to see them having fun out there and playing together.

“[Rebecca Martin] did a great job and she made great choices. She put our hitters in good positions to score and the setter position is so huge. It’s like a quarterback or a point guard and we need that position to be sharp. Rebecca was that today.”
