THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team opens its 2015 season this weekend when it hosts the GT Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Midtown Invite. The Jackets kick off the 2015 campaign against Siena Friday at 12 p.m. and Coastal Carolina at 7:30 p.m., followed by two Saturday matches at 12 p.m. against UT-Martin and against The Citadel at 7:30 p.m. at O’Keefe Gym. • Tech is 24-11 in season openers, and 7-4 in opening the season at home.
• The 2015 Yellow Jackets return five starters plus their libero, along with three newcomers.
• The Jackets added depth with a freshman MB in Lauren Frerking, an OH sophomore from Belarus, Anna Kavalchuk, and transfer from Marquette sophomore setter Gabby Benda.
• The Jackets will appear on ESPN3 or the ACC RSN a program-record 15 times in 2015.
• The 2015 schedule includes six matches against 2014 NCAA Tournament participants and 15 home contests at O’Keefe Gym.
• The Yellow Jackets return 75% (1113 kills) of their offense in 2015, and 59% of their offense from last season was produced by the arms of returners Teegan Van Gunst, Annika Van Gunst and Sydney Wilson.
• Tech returns 73% of its dig production from last season, including 67% (1117 digs) from London Ackermann, Rebecca Martin, Annika Van Gunst and Teegan Van Gunst.
