Volleyball Has Stellar Spring Tournament

March 23, 2004

ATLANTA – On March 20, the Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated Tennessee, Alabama and No. 2 Florida in a spring tournament held at O’Keefe Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets swept the morning portion of the tournament defeating all three SEC foes, including Florida, who lost only two matches all of 2003.

“Our offense is clicking very well considering our emerging setter situation with Lindsey Laband and Abby Showers,” head coach Bond Shymansky exclaimed. “I think Lauren Sauer and Lynnette Moster are going to be one of the best outside hitter combos in the nation this fall.”

In the latter half of the tournament, Tech split the final two games with the Gators.

“It’s important for us to test ourselves against great competition” Shymansky commented about playing the national runner up Florida Gators. “But we can only truly be measured by what we know we can do as team, not by our opponents.”

“We have a lot of areas to work on this spring,” Shymansky added, “but we are really trying to establish our identity. We want to figure out who we are going to be rather than what we are going to do as a team.”
