Volleyball Cruises Past Tennessee Tech, 3-0; Will Host Louisville Tonight At 7:00

ATLANTA – Junior Monique Mead had 13 kills and seven digs and junior Alexis Woodson and sophomore Jennifer Percy added eight kills apiece as the Georgia Tech Volleyball team (2-0) beat Tennessee Tech (0-2), 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-12), Saturday afternoon at O’Keefe Gym in the Courtyard Marriott Classic. The Yellow Jackets will now play Louisville (2-0) tonight at 7 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets hit .375 on the night and were led by Woodson’s .636 percentage. She also accounted for five total blocks. Percy hit .462 while Mead had her 13 kills on .375 hitting. Freshman Ali Santi had 35 assists, five kills and three digs while junior Nicki Meyer led the way with 12 digs.

Tennessee Tech led the first set 3-2 but a 14-0 run by Georgia Tech gave it a 16-3 lead. The Jackets led 21-5 at one point before the Golden Eagles made a mini 4-0 run forcing Tech into a timeout. The Yellow Jackets came back to win the set 25-11 capped by an emphatic kill by Mead, who led the team with five kills in the set. The Percy added four kills as the Yellow Jackets hit .433.

In the second set, the Yellow Jackets used an early 14-1 run to jump out to a commanding 15-3 lead. The Golden Eagles again tried to chip away at the end but Tech hung on for a 25-17 win and a 2-0 lead for the match.

The third set saw Georgia Tech use an early 11-0 run to go up 13-2 and the Jackets never looked back en route to a 25-12 win which clinched the sweep.

Georgia Tech closes out the Courtyard Marriott Classic tonight at 7 p.m. against Louisville at O’Keefe Gym. Fans can watch the match live on All-Access as this weekend will be a free preview.
