SAN DIEGO – Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel took the courts Thursday in San Diego, Calif. for day one of the ITA Fall Nationals coming away with two wins.
Martin, the No. 31 singles player in the nation, started off the action at 9 a.m. PST against Pietro Fellin of Pepperdine. Martin won his match 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.
The ITA Southeast Regional Singles Champion will face No. 68 Stefan Dostanic of USC at 9 a.m. PST on Friday. If Martin wins that match, he will face the winner of Matej Vocel and Trey Hilderbrand. Martin previously faced Hilderbrand in the finals of the ITA Southeast Regionals.
The No. 8 doubles pairing of McDaniel/Martin showed why they earned their ranking beating Caratini/Tamagnone of Georgia Gwinnett College 7-5, 6-2. McDaniel/Martin will face Basing/Sah of Stanford on Friday.
Day two of the tournament starts with singles action on Friday. The day will consist of the round of 16 singles and quarterfinals singles followed by the round of 16 doubles.
