THE FLATS – Rising Georgia Tech senior Nico van Duijn will represent his native country of Switzerland at the 2014 European Swimming Championships August 13-24 in Berlin, Germany.
van Duijn will compete in each of the butterfly events, swimming the 50m fly (August 18), the 100m fly (August 22) and the 200m fly (August 20). The Swiss relays teams have not yet been announced.
“I’m very excited to represent Switzerland as well as Georgia Tech on such a high international level,” said van Duijn. “I can’t wait to show off all the hard work I’ve put in the past few years.”
“We are extremely happy for Nico and look forward to watching all of his hard work pay off at European Championships,” said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “He made great strides this year with an NCAA “A” cut in the 200 fly and this is another great event to add to his impressive resume.”
van Duijn is no stranger to international competitions, having represented Switzerland at the 2013 World University Games, and setting a Swiss national record in 100m at the U.S. Open in Indianapolis in 2012.
