GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech sophomore Maddie Lionberger and senior Ashley Thomas earned All-ACC team honors as voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches, the conference office announced Thursday. Lionberger earned first team honors and Thomas garnered second team honors.
Lionberger earned All-ACC honors for the first time in her career after batting .409 in conference games and .330 on the season. The Austin, Texas, native made a huge improvement from her rookie season when she hit .105 in ACC games and .195 on the season.
Lionberger started all 46 games at second base and tallied 13 runs on 33 hits with nine doubles, three triples and four homers. She led the Yellow Jackets with six doubles and three triples in ACC games, and was second on the team with 19 RBI in ACC action.
Joining Lionberger on the All-ACC team is senior Ashley Thomas, who earned second-team honors.
Thomas is the 2013 ACC Player of the Year and was drafted to the Akron Racers in the NPF this summer. She leads Tech on the season with a .385 batting average, 44 runs and 55 hits, which includes six doubles and eight home runs.
In ACC action, Thomas is batting .378 with 23 runs on 34 hits. She ranks fifth on Georgia Tech’s career chart with 179 runs, and her 113 stolen bases are second on the program’s career list.
Ten schools were represented on the 2014 All-ACC Teams, led by Florida State and Notre Dame with five representatives apiece. North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Syracuse had three, while Boston College, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Pitt each had two. Maryland rounded out the field with one representative.
