THE FLATS — Georgia Tech’s golf and men’s swimming teams were publicly honored for being among the top 10 percent in Academic Progress Rates (APR), announced Wednesday by the NCAA.
Bruce Heppler’s golf program has received an APR Public Recognition Award every year since the inception of the APR in 2006. Courtney Shealy Hart’s men’s swimming program was recognized for the second consecutive year.
Georgia Tech has received 27 public APR awards in 10 sports since the APR was introduced 10 years ago — baseball (2008, 2009), men’s cross country (2009, 2010), women’s cross country (2009, 2010, 2011), football (2012, 2013), golf (2005-2014), softball (2010), men’s swimming (2013, 2014), women’s swimming (2005), men’s tennis (2011), women’s tennis (2013), and volleyball (2008, 2009)
“I am very proud of the hard work all our students do both in the classroom and on the playing fields,” said Mike Bobinski, Georgia Tech Athletic Director. “The perfect APR scores by our golf and men’s swimming programs exemplify our desire for excellence. Congratulations to those teams, their coaches, and academic support for their outstanding achievements.”
The Academic Progress Rate, a multi-year rate based on the most recent four years of data, is a real-time measure of eligibility and retention of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. The most recent APR scores are based on the 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years. This year marks the 11th year of APR data for most teams.
