ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Tech track and field members Jonathan Gardner and Jhanelle McLeod took first in the men’s and women’s triple jumps, respectively, Friday at the Georgia Relays to open Tech’s outdoor season.
Gardner leaped to a career-best distance of 15.94m (52-03.75) to win the triple jump. Myles McDavid placed fourth in the same event with a jump of 14.09m (46-02.75).
In her first event since the 2012 NCAA East Preliminary rounds, McLeod won the women’s triple jump with a personal-best distance of 13.09m (42-11.50). Julienne McKee placed fifth in the event with a jump of 12.20m (40-0.50).
In the hurdle events, Kamilah Bakari placed second in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.49. Monique Pate took fourth and crossed the line in 14.86.
On the men’s side, Spencer Allen placed third in the 110-meters, logging a time of 14.84.
The Jackets continue action Saturday at the Georgia Relays with the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase scheduled for 11 a.m.
