THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field team travels to Birmingham this weekend to compete Friday and Saturday in the Samford Invitational.
Action begins Friday at 2:10 p.m. CT as Alex Braxton and Monique Pate compete in the Pentathlon. The running events begin at 5:30 p.m. CT with the women’s 200 meters and the men’s DMR wraps up day one at 8:45 p.m. CT.
The Yellow Jackets kick off Saturday’s events at 9 a.m. CT with the women’s long jump and end the competition at 6:35 p.m. CT with the men’s 4×400-meter relay.
In the Jackets’ most recent competition, the foursome of Brandon Lasater, Alexander Reese, Zack Fanelty and Jeremy Greenwald set a new Georgia Tech indoor school record in the distance medley relay at the Penn State National meet.
The quartet crossed the line in sixth place in a time of 9:42.43, breaking the previous record of 9:48.49 set in 2000 by Joe Stegal, Tosin Tomori, Brent Johnson and Brendon Mahoney by more than six seconds.
In the ACC this season, six Georgia Tech athletes hold a top five mark in seven sevents. Broderick Snoddy holds the fourth-fastest mark in the 60 meters (6.71) and the 200 meters (21.23).
Brandon Lasater and Zack Fanelty hold the second (1:49.74) and third (1:50.36) fastest 800 meters times, respectively.
Jeremy Greenwald owns the fourth-best mile time this season (4:03.02) and Nikita Kirillov’s 16-08.75 pole vault is the third highest.
Julienne McKee’s long jump of 20-00.50 is third in the ACC this season and her triple jump mark of 41-7.00 is fifth.
