ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams open their 2010 indoor season on Friday when they take part in the Roaring Tiger Opener in Clemson, S.C.

The Georgia Tech men’s squad, who finished eighth at last year’s ACC Indoor Championships, will send 14 competitors to Clemson on Friday.

“After many weeks of training, we are looking forward to getting the 2010 indoor season underway,” said men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale. “As we have done for several years, we will take a small group that we feel need to get a competition under their belt prior to the Christmas break.”

Top returnees for the Jackets include 2009 NCAA Indoor Championship participants Alphonso Jordan and Steve Marcelle. Jordan also garnered All-American honors at the NCAA Championship.

On the women’s side, the Jackets will also take a limited roster. Georgia Tech is looking to improve on a seventh place finish at the 2009 ACC Indoor Championships and returns ’09 All-ACC Indoor performers Joanna Wright and Bailey Wagner.

“This will be a good opener for our women’s team,” said women’s head coach Alan Drosky. “It will be a low key affair, but yet will still provide some good competition and an opportunity to get back into a competitive environment. With exams upon us we’ll mostly compete a limited roster. We’re still a pretty young team so this is a good chance to gain some experience.”

Fans are reminded that results and a full recap will be available on Ramblinwreck.com after competition on Friday.
