ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech track & field will take part in the Tiger Paw Invitational this weekend in Clemson, S.C. to continue their indoor season. Action gets underway at 5 p.m. on Friday evening and concludes on Saturday afternoon beginning at noon. The event is the last for Tech before the team takes part in the ACC Indoor Championships beginning on Feb. 25th.
The Yellow Jackets are no strangers to the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex, as they have participated in two previous meets on the track this year (the Roaring Tiger Opener on Dec. 5th and the Clemson Invitational from Jan. 8th-9th).
On the men’s side, the Jackets will try to continue their string of impressive performances in the last couple of weeks as preparation continues for the ACC Championships.
“The Tiger Paw Invitational is an important meet for us in that it our last competition prior to the ACC Championships. ,” men’s track coach Grover Hinsdale said. “We have had several outstanding performances thus far during the indoor season. We’re looking to continue that trend this weekend at Clemson.”
Last week at the Virginia Tech Elite Invitational, senior Alphonso Jordan led the Jackets, where he won the long jump, came in second in the triple jump, and provisionally qualified for the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in both events.
Also, senior Steve Marcelle made his first appearance of the season at the VT Elite, placing third in the shot put with a provisional qualifying mark of 61′ 4¼”.
For the Tech women, last weekend’s VT Elite meet was also a successful one., as 14 Yellow Jacket athletes recorded top ten finishes in several events. Leading the way was junior Jenae Anderson, who registered a third place finish in the 200m dash and finished sixth in the 60m dash.
