THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track & field program announced its 2022-23 indoor schedule on Monday. The Jackets will travel to Clemson, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina for competition throughout the regular season.
The program will spend the entirety of its indoor campaign on the road. Tech will open the indoor season with the Clemson Opener on Friday, Dec. 2. The Jackets will return to Clemson after the new year for a two-day invite from Friday, Jan. 13 to Saturday, Jan. 14.
Postseason begins with the ACC Indoor Championships, which will be hosted by Louisville, on Thursday, Feb. 23. The conference meet will be contested throughout three days and conclude on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Qualifying athletes will then have the chance to travel to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. The national meet will take place from Friday, March 10 to Saturday, March 11.
Tech heads into the indoor season with several notable returners. Seniors Taylor Grimes, Lydia Troupe and juniors Shanty Papakosta, Sheleah Harris will provide the women’s team with depth and experience in the sprint, hurdle and field events.
On the men’s side, John Watkins was a standout for the Jackets in the triple jump last season. Joining him in the field events is a graduate transfer and thrower from Army West Point, Jamir Gibson. Gibson comes to the flats as a seven-time Patriot League Conference Champion and NCAA All-American Honorable Mention
The distance and mid distance programs will feature many of the cross country athletes who recently concluded a competitive fall season.

Competitive Drive Initiative
In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
