PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Georgia Tech track and field team completed day one Thursday at the 120th Annual Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field.
The 4×100-meter relay team of Jazmyne Taylor, Christina Pensock, Alex Braxton and Carissa Tipler crossed the line in a time of 48.94. The distance medley relay team of Morgan Jackson, Christina Pensock, Samantha Kiblinger and Katie Townsend finished eighth with a time of 11:51.08.
In the women’s 5,000m, Carolina Kissel placed 30th with a time of 17:35.68 and teammate Allison Brackin took 35th (17:48.13). On the men’s side, freshman Troy Hayden ran the 5,000m in 15:04.63 for 31st place.
Three Yellow Jackets ran the women’s 10,000m to cap off the first day of competition. Freshman Melissa Fairey took 21st in a time of 36:02.97, followed by Hayley Keadey (25th; 36:06.09) and Kelly Meyer (28th; 36:20.94).
In the lone field event of the day, Julienne McKee placed sixth in the women’s long jump with a distance of 5.98m (19-7.50).
Friday’s focus is the relay events as three women’s relays and two men’s relay events highlight the second day of competition. The men’s 100 meter dash is tucked between relays at 3:30 p.m.
On the final day of competition, Jonathan Gardner is set to compete in the triple jump at 2 p.m. and the men’s 4×800-meter relay team runs at 4:40 p.m.
