CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Georgia Tech track and field team complete the first day of competition Thursday at the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field championships at North Carolina’s Belk Track, Fetzer Field and Finley Field.
Julienne McKee took sixth in the long jump finals with a jump of 6.00m (19-08.25) to earn Georgia Tech three team points.On the men’s side, Jonathan Gardner finished 10th in the long jump with a distance of 6.86m (22-06.25).
Shawn Roberts qualified for the finals in the men’s 1,500 meters with a preliminary time of 3:46.57 and teammate Jeremy Greenwald placed third in his 1,500-meter heat with a time of 3:49.94. Morgan Jackson placed 17th in the women’s 1,500 meter preliminaries in a time of 4:28.58.
Ama Larbi qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles. She finished seventh in a time of 1:00.12 and earned a spot in the finals set for Saturday at 6 p.m.
Broderick Snoddy finished 13th in the 200m dash with a time of 21.53 and missed qualifying for the final round by less than two tenths of a second.
In the distance events, Katie Townsend crossed the line 12th in the 10,000 meters in a time of 35:35.41.
Action continues at the ACC Championships Friday. The second day of competition focuses on the preliminary running events beginning at 4:45 p.m. with the 100m dash, as well as the final field events for men’s shot put and high jump, and women’s javelin, shot put and pole vault. Friday ends with men and women’s steeplechase finals beginning at 7:30 p.m.
