Track Competes At UVA Challenge, Georgia Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Georgia Tech track and field team wrapped up competition Saturday at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. and the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.

At the Virginia Challenge, the Yellow Jackets competed in the middle distance and distance events. Zack Fanelty placed fifth in the 800 meters in a time of 1:49.56 and Cole Jackob took 15th with a mark of 1:51.78 out of 30 competitors.

Katie Townsend finished second in the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 17:16.43 and teammate Carolina Kissel took ninth in the same event (17:56.39).

Brandon Lasater took second in the men’s 1500 meters with a time of 3:42.91 and Jeremy Greenwald placed 10th in a time of 3:44.57. Morgan Jackson ran the women’s 1500 meters in 4:33.08.

Patrick Barron placed third in the men’s 10,000 with a time of 30:25.46.

Georgia Invite

In Athens, Broderick Snoddy won the 200 meters in a time of 21.10 and placed third in the 100 meters in a time of 10.48.

In the running events, Spence Allen placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.35. In the women’s hurdles, Ama Larbi placed second in the 400m-hurdles with a time of 1:01.31.

Kelly Meyer took 10th in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:44.69. On the men’s side Nico Metzler took third with a time of 3:54.84. Teammates Troy Hayden (3:56.77) and Adonis Gaines (3:58.94) also finished in the top 10 with fifth and ninth-place finishes, respectively.

Malin Trollsas took third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.59 and Samantha Kiblinger took fifth (2:14.50).  

Competing as an unattached athlete, Myles McDavid won the long jump with a distance of 7.47m (24-06.25). On the women’s side Donjhae Jones won the long jump with a mark of 6.07m (19-11.00) and Carissa Tipler placed fifth (5.69m; 18-08.00).

Also in the field events, Samantha Becker tied for third in the pole vault with a height of 3.85m (12-07.50). Ashleigh Uhl placed 10th in the javelin throw with a distance of 33.85m (111-01).

Julienne McKee took fourth in the triple jump, logging a distance of 12.38m (40-07.50).

The Jackets are back in action May 16-17 when they host the Georgia Tech Invitational at Griffin Track.
